Purdy
The very beautiful Purdy came into our care in August 2011, having been thrown out and left to fend for herself. We all desperately wanted to find her a home as soon as possible. Poor Purdy was on the brink of being rehomed twice, but at the last minute things didn't go to plan and there she still sat, getting more and more depressed in kennels. It was heartbreaking as all she wanted was to be with someone, her someone special.
Thankfully along came Roz, and off Purdy went to live on the Norfolk coast with her. Roz sent us this lovely letter from Purdy.....

Hi everyone..its me Purdy !
I thought I would drop you a line to say thank you to you all for looking after me so well whilst I was staying at your place. I am dictating this to my “human” from the comfort of her bed (well she thinks its hers, but I know otherwise).
I must admit that from the first time my human took me for a walk I just knew that I could whip her into shape and train her up to a reasonable standard. You may remember she came to collect me 5 weeks ago (which is to my calculations, 35 sleeps and 105 walks ago) and as soon as I got to her house I immediately checked the kitchen out to see if it would meet my criteria for the preparation of my meals, I then checked the bed for bounciness and also all the chairs in the living room. All appeared up to scratch...speaking of which...hold on a sec, ...ah that's better...had a little itch under my collar, you know the sort. Now where was I....oh yes....she had even put a nice little mattress on the floor for me with my nice blanket that she had asked you for so that I would have something with my scent on to make me feel at home, bless her, she was so eager to please me. Out on walks she has let me sniff at a few dogs, but if she thinks I will fancy any of those old codgers she is very much mistaken, who does she take me for.
My human has a training lead attached to my normal lead so that I can sniff at all the nice spots when I take her out for a walk and if she is lagging a bit behind I just speed up a bit to encourage her to walk a bit quicker but mostly I am happy to trot along doing what I like. When we go out in the open fields and my human can see for miles around she takes off my lead and I can go for a really good run and have found plenty of places to go swimming too. I make my human walk miles, you know how it is a girl has to exersise to keep her figure and I reckon my human could do with some tips in that department !
A typical day for me starts about 7.30am when I crawl out from under the duvet and lick my humans face and cuddle up to her neck. She likes this and so I know she will tickle my tummy for a few minutes and then she will get up and fix me my breakfast. I find I wake up a bit peckish so its a good way to get her out of bed. We soon set off for a walk down on the beach and if no one is around I can run around off lead and go for a paddle. When we get home I like to have little rest then sometimes we wander up the village or else we set off for our lunchtime walk. Sometimes we go on the bus, sometimes we go through the fields and invariably I get to have a lovely cool swim. If my human sees other humans in the distance she calls me back and I go to her to have my lead put on as she says “in case there is a dog” and once that out of the way off I go again. When we get home sometimes after 2hrs I have a little lie down and plan what I will have for dinner. My human dishes up and I soon polish that off. I take her out again for 20mins-30 mins before she has her dinner and then she gives me a lovely big dental chew and I settle down for an evening of TV and sleep with lovely doggy dreams. My human usually wakes me up so that I can go out for a wee before she gets into bed and of course I jump up on the bed and immediately bury my way under the duvet and get comfy. When I get a bit hot I stick my head out the end of the duvet. She says I snore...superior beings like me don't snore of course !
Any way, I just thought I should bring you up to date on how I am getting on with training up my human. I hold out high hopes for her though it will of course take time for her to learn all the ropes but I would hope that within a couple of months she will fully learn her position and the correct pecking order (she bought a book The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell and I think this has helped her to work out just who is the Boss around here). She took me to the vets...just to weigh me.....and 2 weeks later we went again....I think she is jealous of my trim figure...but I have been getting larger dinners since the second visit so I am not complaining.
Now......I really am tired out now, so if you will excuse me, I need to put my paws up, but once again thanks for everything, I just hope that the other guys find a suitable human too.......love Purdy xxxxx (I am such a good kisser!)
